- You'll be much more comfortable if you don't eat for a couple of hours before the massage.
- For massage clothing is optional, the less the better; draping will be employed. During Structural Integration sessions, underwear is worn and loose gym clothing is worn during Thai-Yoga massages.
- Take off jewelry that could cause scratching and interfere with having a smooth massage.
- If you wear glasses or contact lenses, remove them so that it's safe around your eyes. It will also help you to relax more.
- If you're concerned about getting oil on your hair, inform the therapist.
- Let the therapist know whether you have any sore or sensitive areas or any medical or physical conditions, so he or she can work appropriately.
- Being quiet will allow you to tune into your experience more fully and relax more deeply. But, don't hesitate to give the therapist feedback regarding the pressure that's comfortable for you or to ask a question related to your session.
- If emotions surface, do not be afraid to give them expression. Sometimes during therapeutic bodywork, emotions will come up, and it is a great benefit if these can be let go of or worked through. At the very least don't be afraid to sigh with relaxation or hum with pleasure.
- Breathe deeply and regularly, stressing the exhalation; allow the body and its parts to become heavy and sink into the table or mat, as the therapist's hands locate areas of tension, consciously allow yourself to let go and relax into those areas. This helps facilitate your inner healing process.
- You deserve to take good care of yourself.
